Evaluation

Before

Learning more about your child

Prior to scheduling an evaluation it will be important to learn more about your child and how treatment could help support their development or academic functioning. In order to do this, we will need to conduct an intake call over the phone. Important information we might discuss include: “What concerns do you have?”, “How old is your child?, “What are your child’s interests?”. The call is also an opportunity to go over our services and answer any questions you may have. After the call, you may be directed to a client portal to complete the intake process.

During

What happens at an evaluation

Evaluations at Think Say Do Speech and Language Serviceslook different depending on the age of your child. Overall evaluations are intended to be easy-going and involve looking through books, pictures, and may also incorporate play. You can expect your clinician to ask you questions about your child’s speech, language, and/or fluency skills at home and/or school. Your child will likely also be asked to perform tasks to determine a pattern of strengths and weaknesses. At Think Say Do Speech and Language Services all evaluations are comprehensive, and as a result your child’s overall language will be assessed in conjunction with articulation, fluency, voice and oral-motor skills.

After

Treatment plan + getting scheduled for therapy

Following the evaluation, your SLP will provide you with the results of the assessment and discuss recommended treatment frequency. An evaluation report will be made available to you within 1-2 weeks via the secure client portal. The report will include a plan of care with goals to improve your child’s speech, language, and/or fluency. The first treatment session will include time to discuss the evaluation report in detail and answer further questions. Please note that your child’s progress towards their goals will be continuously monitored. Updates to your child’s plan of care will occur as needed based on clinical data and your input.
